THE WALLACE CASE
On Tuesday 20th January 1931, collections agent William Wallace discovered the bludgeoned body of his wife, Julia Wallace in the lounge of their Liverpool home.
Two weeks later, he was arrested and charged with her murder.
Following a trial revealing a tale of intrigue and misdirection, William was found guilty and sentenced to death. But in an unprecedented move, the Court of Criminal Appeals quashed the verdict, finding that it was not supported by the weight of the evidence. William walked free, leaving one of the world' s most confounding mysteries unsolved to this day.
Who killed Julia Wallace and why?
Was the crime a burglary gone wrong? Was Julia simply in the wrong place at the wrong time? Did someone else have a grudge to settle? Did the Wallaces have a secret that cost Julia her life? Or did William get away with murder after all, tried, convicted, then acquitted, but guilty nonetheless?
